The Highland School District is reaching out to the community for new representation on their board in District 6. Kathy Butler resigned her position on the board Friday, April 15th. District 6 stretches into Johnson County from the Iowa River southeast of Hills, west to Maier Avenue, south and east to the intersection of Highways 218 and 22 staying north of Riverside city limits, west and southwest to Redwood Avenue with a southern border of 150th Street.
Highland Superintendent Ken Crawford says the district has 30 days to appoint someone to that seat, and those that live in the district have 14 days to gather a petition of 108 signatures to require a special election. Crawford tells KCII News the appointment process would include a couple of weeks to see if there are applicants, followed by a brief interview process if believed to be necessary, then a new selection before the 30 day period is over. The term for the District 6 seat runs through November of 2023.
