Roth Field in Wayland was full of excitement Tuesday night as WACO hosted their annual boys Warrior Relays. Of the four area schools that participated, WACO had the best performance in Class B in front of their home fans, taking third with 105 points. Danville won the meet with 140 points. The Warriors had a pair of championship events with Zach Schmitz winning the 110 hurdles in a time of 16.57 seconds. The WACO sprint medley team of Cainan Lovan, Schmitz, Reece Oswald and Braden Spain were best on the track with their time of 1:42.76. Other top Warrior finishes included Isaac Oswald second in the 100, second for Oleh Shtefanchuk in the discus, second and third for Jonah Clark and Colton Leichty in the shot put, runner-up for the shuttle hurdle team of Schmitz, Clayton Miller, Tanner Egli and Gage Samo, third for Braden Spain in the high jump and third for the 4×100 team of Reese and Isaac Oswald, Miller and Lovan.
Winfield-Mt. Union was fourth with 77 points. The Wolves had three championship events with Cam Buffington clearing 19’11 to take gold in the long jump, Gabe Hemsworth best in the 400 hurdles with his time of 57.68 seconds and a title for the 4×800 team of Noah Sparrow, Lane Scorpil, Kohlby Newsom and Gabe Hemsworth in 9:40.29. Other top Wolves finishes included runner-up for the distance medley team of Caleb Giese, Abram Edwards, Buffington and Sparrow, third for Buffington in the 200, third for Newsom in the 1600, third for the 4×200 squad of Giese, Eli Miller, Abram Edwards and Brendan Simmons.
Lone Tree was fifth with 73 points. The Lion shuttle hurdle team took the title with Ethan Willoz, Jader Barajas, Andrew Gauley and Cade Patterson running 1:08.18. Other top Lone Tree finishes included Patterson runner-up in the 110 hurdles and third in the 400 hurdles, second for the 4×100 team of Andrew Hotz, Ethan Bockelman, Henry Brenneman and Barajas, second for the 4×200 team of Hotz, Gauley, Cade Shield and Barajas and second for the sprint medley team of Hotz, Patterson, Brenneman and Shield.
Sigourney was seventh with 20 points. Top finishes for the Savages included a third place for Peyton Leathers in the 100 and third for the sprint medley team of Leathers, Cole Clarahan, Karson Weber and Jake Moore.
