While the weather has been slow to shift, Washington County Conservation continues their transition to the summer season. Conservation Executive Director Zach Rozmus talked about some of the tasks that were reviewed at their recent board meeting to get ready for the next few months, “Even just turning the water on here at Marr Park. We’re definitely itching to get it turned on because it’s easier for us just to turn it on, because we do get a lot of questions this time of year as the weather starts to turn, people are wanting to get out and get camping and I understand that. This time of year we have to make sure we are keeping an eye on those cooler temperatures at night, we don’t want our pipes to be freezing up. We have a lot of vertical stands on the camp ground that could freeze up and cause broken pipes which could lead for more work for us and cost could be substantial in those scenarios.”
Other changes include transitioning hours at the Conservation Center from the Monday through Friday winter hours to the Tuesday through Saturday summer hours. Conservation will also be hiring seasonal help to handle things like maintenance, mowing, campground management and registration, and assistance with the environmental education team for the conservation board. More information about these positions can be found at the Washington County Conservation Facebook and government pages
