The stage curtain parts tonight for Washington High School’s spring musical production, “Little Shop of Horrors.”

Brett Pierson is directing this horror comedy rock musical that was originally staged in 1982 and made into the 1986 film, which tells the story of a florist shop worker who raises a plant that feeds on human blood and flesh. Senior Quinn Wubbena is proud to snag the leading role of Seymour Krelborn in his final high school production, “The only thing I knew about this show was the main refrain of ‘Suddenly Seymour’ and that was it. I knew nothing about the show and thought it was this nice, upbeat, hip, kind of show and I was very wrong but I’ve come to like it. I didn’t expect to but I came to really like this show.”

Junior Bailey Rees is donning a wig and New Yorker accent for the role of Seymour’s love interest Audrey. Rees gave her reaction to learning of Pierson’s show selection, “I was really surprised honestly. I guess now I really don’t know what to expect when Brett picks shows, no offense. I know my friend group, we kind of joked, ‘Oh hey, what if we do ‘Little Shop of Horrors? Ha ha ha.’ And we did and it’s turned out pretty well, I think.”

Pierson believes the community will be amazed not just by the show’s theatrics but by the cast of student actors themselves, and performances are at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the Washington Area Performing Arts and Events Center. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students.
