Around 30 people gathered to hear from a U.S. Congressional candidate in downtown Washington Sunday afternoon.
A meet and greet was hosted at Art Domestique for current Iowa House District 85 Representative Christina Bohannan, who is running unopposed for the Democratic nomination in the June primary election to unseat Republican incumbent Mariannette Miller-Meeks in November. Bohannan shared her background as the first in her family to graduate from college, and answered questions on topics including mental health, immigration reform, education, voting rights legislation, and more. Bohannan tells KCII she loved meeting with Washington residents, “There were so many people there and they were so engaged and they had such great questions and such great comments and really helping me understand better the area. I think it’s so important that representatives not just tell people what their ideas are but listen to what’s going on in that location and I heard a lot about that today and it was fantastic. People were just so welcoming and so warm and it was just a lot of fun.”
Bohannan is a former engineer and current law professor at the University of Iowa, and was elected to the state House in 2020. You can hear more from Bohannan during Monday’s Halcyon House Washington Page on air and at kciiradio.com.
