The Washington soccer programs brought their brooms with them for a Saturday non-conference road trip to Mediapolis. The Washington girls improved to 7-2 on the year with a 3-1 win over the Bullettes. The game stood even at 1-1 at half before the Demons found the winner and an insurance tally after the break.
The Washington boys needed a little extra to get by MEPO 2-1. Fighting the Bulldogs and the wind, Washington found themselves trailing 1-0 at half. In the 56th minute, Brayan Arreola equalized on an Isaac Gentry assist. Things stayed even through the rest of regulation and extra time. In penalty kicks, the Demons cashed in on four of their five chances with Bill De La Rosa, Emre Akgul, Gentry and Emanuel Raymundo all finding the back of the net. Following match, Akgul, a Demon captain, talked about taking the PK and the win. “It was my first ever PK. Once I placed the ball and they read my name, I felt the pressure going through my veins. I just took a deep breath and placed it on a corner. After our last player scored the goal it was a really nice feeling. We were all happy and celebrating.”
Mediapolis was 50/50 against Washington goal keeper Will Gilchrist-Brock who finished with seven saves on the day. The Demons have now won five straight matches and improve to 7-1 on the season.
