The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk girls soccer team played at a home away from home Monday night, beating visiting Cedar Valley Christian 5-1 on the pitch at Hillcrest Academy. The contest was moved from the Wellman Rotary Soccer Fields due to wet conditions, allowing a portion of the team, due to Hillcrest Academy’s sharing agreement in the program with the Golden Hawks, to play a rare match on their true home field. One of those players was Esther Hughes, who took full advantage. The state’s third leading goal scorer in 1A, pushed her total to 18 tallies on the year with her fifth hat trick of the season. Sophia Baker scored her second and third goals of the year to give Mid-Prairie their third win in a row and fourth in their last five matches. The Golden Hawks are 6-3 on the year with a home date against Iowa City Regina Monday.
