A Washington man who pleaded guilty to a lesser assault charge this February was arrested for a domestic abuse assault incident Sunday.
The criminal complaint states at about 4:06 p.m. the Washington Police Department was dispatched to the 1400 block of North 3rd Avenue in reference to a female who had been struck by a vehicle. The victim told officers that 27-year-old Timmy Lee Broadnax, Jr. had intentionally run over her leg with his vehicle while she was trying to recover keys that he had stolen from her. Two witnesses also indicated that Broadnax was aware that he had run over the victim, and he was located in Kalona by a Washington County Sheriff’s Deputy. He was arrested and charged with domestic abuse assault, third or subsequent offense, a class D felony, and leaving the scene of a personal injury incident. Through a plea agreement, Broadnax was recently given one year of probation for a conviction of assault, a simple misdemeanor, for an August 25, 2021 incident. He was originally charged with a felony domestic as he has previous convictions from 2012 and 2016 in Johnson County, but his charge was changed to domestic abuse assault second offense, an aggravated misdemeanor in September. KCII will bring you more information as it becomes official.
