If the weather that we have received in southeast Iowa so far this spring feels out of the ordinary, you’re not mistaken. On Tuesday, Washington was colder than it has ever been on April 26th. The overnight recorded temperature prior to 6a.m. in Washington was 28 degrees, breaking the previous record of 31 in 1976. Wind chills down to 16 were also reported. Le Mars saw the coldest overnight low in Iowa, dipping to 21 degrees. Due to the cold conditions the National Weather Service issued a freeze warning for the KCII listening area Monday into Tuesday. 

So far in April, Washington’s average high temperature has been 55 degrees with an average low of 33. The historical average high for the month is 62 with the low at 38. The rest of the week will see highs into the upper 50s and lower 60s with a chance of rain showers Thursday and Saturday.
