A pair of KCII area boys soccer programs are in this season’s statewide spotlight, appearing in the latest edition of the Iowa High School Soccer Coaches Association rankings.

The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawks are ranked No. 1 in Class 1A for the third consecutive week. The Golden Hawks are an unbeaten 8-0 on the year and have been in the top spot in the poll in all three polls for the year. Mid-Prairie has outscored their opponents by a combined 47-1 score this year, including a 9-0 win at Highland on Tuesday. The one goal they allowed came to No. 3 Williamsburg in a 3-1 Golden Hawk victory in Wellman in the season opener way back on April 5th, a string of seven straight shut outs. Mid-Prairie No. 1 in 1A in shots, shots on goal, scoring defense, goal keeper save percentage, second in corner kicks, third in goals, fourth in assists and fourth in points. Owen Trimpe leads Mid-Prairie and is eighth in 1A with nine assists, Alex Bean leads the way with nine goals and in goal, Justice Jones is second in 1A with 23 saves and a 96% save percentage, for goal keepers with at least 200 minutes on the line. The Golden Hawks are next in action Friday when they host the Cascade Cougars in Wellman for Senior Night.

The Washington Demons have jumped into the rankings for the first time this year. Washington appears at No. 12 in this week’s class 2A poll with an 8-1 overall record after a 2-0 win on the road against the rival Mount Pleasant Panthers on Monday. The victory was the sixth in a row for Washington, their longest streak in more than 12 years. The Demons have outscored their opponents 55-8 in total this year, including four shut outs. The Demons lead all of class 2A with 58 goals scored and 188 shots on goal, their 147 team points are third, Washington’s 31 assists are fifth in 2A. The Demons are led individually by Fredy Aguilar’s 10 goals, Kevin Marcelino’s six assists and Will Gilchrist-Brock and Cole Anderson have split the majority of the time in goal with 39 combined saves and an 82% save percentage. The Demons get set for a huge game tonight when they host the only team that has beaten them this year, No. 11 Fort Madison. The Bloodhounds topped the Demons 2-1 back on April 11th. The winner of tonight’s match sits atop the Southeast Conference standings.
