Two new COVID-19 deaths were confirmed in Washington County Wednesday, the first fatalities reported locally in over a month.
The Iowa Department of Public Health’s website shows Washington County is now at 79 deaths. Since the last local fatality was confirmed on March 16th Iowa has added 180 deaths for a total of 9,529. A second COVID booster dose is now recommended for certain immunocompromised individuals and adults 50 years and older. This booster may be administered at least four months after receiving the first booster dose, and it improves protection in the population that are at higher risk of severe disease, hospitalization and death. No appointment is needed for a COVID vaccine clinic being held Tuesday, May 10th from 1-4 p.m. at Washington County Public Health located on the third floor of Federation Bank. Those 5 years old and up can receive a free Pfizer, Johnson and Johnson, or Moderna COVID shot. You can also find other locations administering COVID vaccines here.
