The 22nd nationwide drug takeback day is this Saturday, with law enforcement agencies in Washington and neighboring counties hosting drop off sites for unwanted prescription drugs.

This is the 11th year for the twice-annual event sponsored by the Drug Enforcement Administration, and from 10 a.m.-noon the Washington County Sheriff’s Office and Washington Police Department will be accepting expired, unused, and unwanted prescription drugs at the United Presbyterian Church parking lot in Washington. Only pills and patches can be accepted, and for the public’s privacy they recommend putting the pills in a zip lock bag and disposing of the bottle at home. This service is free and anonymous, no questions asked. The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office is hosting a dropoff site from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at Summit Pharmacy in Fairfield, and Henry County residents can drop off medications at the New London, Wayland and Winfield police departments from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.
