It was a busy Friday on the Blue Oval for KCII area athletes at the 112th annual Drake Relays and a handful of individuals secured some new hardware. 

On day two in Des Moines, five events from the area cracked the top eight led by a runner-up showing from Mid-Prairie’s Jayden Stafford in the 400m Wheelchair by finishing with a time of 1:11.07 in the coed event. The distance medley relay for the Washington boys made some noise placing fourth out of 24 with a school record time of 3:31.49. This team consisted of Ethan Patterson, Jacob Miller, Elijah Morris, and Lance Sobaski. The junior Morris also participated in the 400m dash where he finished sixth out of 16 by crossing the finish line in 50.01 seconds. Mid-Prairie’s Mitzi Evans tallied fourth out of 16 in the girls 400m with a time of 56.98 seconds and the senior was the anchor of the 4x100m relay that was fifth out of 24 (1:48.97). The rest of the relay involved Madeline Schrader, Amara Jones, and Tabitha Evans. 

Other area results on the day included Mid-Prairie’s Cain Brown 10th in the boys high jump clearing 6’3’’, Highland’s Sarah Burton finishing 14th in the girls long jump with a leap of 16’3.25’’, Washington’s Sobaski placing 15th in the boys 800m (1:59.5), the Demons’ Brayden Hartman had the 24th longest heave in the boys shot put (46’8.75’’), and WACO’s Simeon Reichenbach nabbed 28th in the boys 110m hurdles clocking in at 15.92 seconds. 

Today is the final day at Drake Stadium with a handful of area athletes competing including the girls 4x100m for Mid-Prairie and Highland, boys 4x100m for Washington and Mid-Prairie, the Golden Hawks’ Danielle Hostetler in the girls 1500m, and the Demons’ Sobaski in the boys 1600m.
