There are several free events for adults to enjoy this coming May at the Washington Public Library.

Kicking off the month will be a special presentation on “The Wonder of Trees” with Clyde Pearce this Monday at 6 p.m. Library Director Cary Ann Siegfried says this event ties in with the recent 50th anniversary of Arbor Day and the annual city tree giveaway happening May 14th on the square, “Just looking at all the events it seems like we have a lot more going on for adults in May than we necessarily do for children, and I think that’s because we’re gearing up for summer reading club that will start in June.”

Other events at the library this coming month include the second installment of a presentation on the beginning of Disney with Bob Roddy at 2 p.m. Tuesday, and the Happy Ukulele Group which will meet May 9th at 5:30 p.m. and May 10th at 2 p.m. Siegfried says all abilities are welcome to play or just sing along and enjoy the love of music. There will also be a chamber music performance May 17th at 2 p.m. from the University of Iowa Arts Share program, and a book reading from local authors Summer Lisk and John Bain at 6 p.m. May 18th.

Siegfried is also excited for a recent partnership with YMCA of Washington County for a cards and coffee book club. The group will meet at 8:45 a.m. May 18th at the Washington YMCA to discuss the book “Wild” by Cheryl Strayed, with a screening of the film adaptation at 12:30 p.m. at the library. The library has copies of the book and you can call 319-653-2726 to register.
