The Mid-Prairie girls soccer team takes their home pitch Monday to entertain visiting No. 10 Iowa City Regina. The Golden Hawks come into the match with a 6-3 overall record. They were a 5-1 winner last week over Cedar Valley Christian in Wellman. On the year, the Golden Hawks have outscored their opponents 35-20 with one defensive shut out. They are led individually by Esther Hughes with 21 goals, third in class 1A. Kaitlin Martin has a team best five assists. In goal, Ainsley Lueck has made 63 saves and allowed 20 goals, working out to a 76% save percentage.
Iowa City Regina is 6-2 on the year, ranked No. 10 in class 1A in the latest poll from the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union, and they have won three straight matches including a 2-1 victory over Cedar Rapids Washington last weekend. On the year, the Regals have outscored their opponents 24-12 with one defensive shut out. They are led individually by Grace Gaarde and her 18 goals, fifth most in 1A. Gaarde, Saffron McNamara, Lillian Simpson, Madelyn Greve and Alli Clark each have one assist. Courtney Kessler has made 47 saves and allowed 10 goals, working out to an 83% save percentage. Regina has won nine in a row in the series including a 3-0 victory last May. Action starts tonight at 5p.m. at the Wellman Rotary Soccer Fields.
