Even with a couple weeks left in the spring sports season, the summer sports slate is starting in full swing today with the softball and baseball season commencing in the state of Iowa.

Both sports are allowed to start practices today with the first competition being able to take place on May 16th for baseball and May 23rd for softball. The Iowa High School Athletic Association and Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union has issued a “Family Week” at the end of July where no school sanctioned events are allowed to happen and therefore the state tournaments for baseball and softball will overlap. The softball festivities will take place July 18th-22nd at the Rogers Sports Complex in Fort Dodge while baseball will compete the same week. Class 1A and 2A for baseball will be held at Merchants Park in Carroll and 3A and 4A will play at Duane Banks Field in Iowa City.

KCII will broadcast select Washington, Mid-Prairie, and Hillcrest Academy baseball and softball games with a complete schedule available in the Live Radio Sports Guide at kciiradio.com. Keep up with full recaps from all area schools in the sports tab.
