At this point whenever the Columbus Community boys step onto the track you might as well give them the trophy. It was nothing new for the blue and white on Monday when they continued their dream season by capturing a remarkable seventh meet title, this time at their home Wildcat Relays.
The smaller meet had four teams participating with the Wildcats having little trouble racking up 146 points to best second place Wilton with 95. Nine events captured gold including three time champ Kaden Amigon in the 200m (23.61), 400m (53.33), and long jump (20’6’’). Isaac Acosta handled the 800m (2:13) and 1600m (5:03) while Freddy Vergara placed first in the 3200m (10:55). Russell Coil had the longest heave in the shot put (40’7’’) and a pair of relays had the top time in the 4x800m (9:19) and distance medley (3:59). The 4x800m consisted of Tyler Humiston, Tim Hills-Carrier, Javier Panchillo, and Vergara while the d-med had Dyson Juhl, Jon Miranda, Damian Vergara, and Acosta.
The Wildcat girls placed fourth with 47 points while Durant won with 113. A pair of events stood on top with Libby White winning the discus (82’7.75’’) and the 4x800m (11:42) consisting of Quinn Yotter, Frannie Sosa, Avery Sipes, and Kimberly Gonzalez. Other top finishes included Ariana Vergara second in the 1500m (6:13), Sipes third in the same event (6:34), and Lily Coil third in the 400m hurdles (1:15) and long jump (14’1.25’’).
