The best of the best in the River Valley Conference got together for the RVC championship track meet Thursday at Dean Nelson Field in Monticello, and when the dust cleared, the Mid-Prairie girls and boys track teams were loading a lot of hardware on the bus.
The Golden Hawk girls won the team River Valley Championship going away with their total of 149 points, their second conference title in a row. Tipton was a distant second with 87 points. Mid-Prairie had six event championships on the night that featured a pair of 1-2 Golden Hawk finishes. In the 1500, Mid-Prairie’s Danielle Hostetler won gold with her time of 4:51.77, right behind her as runner-up was teammate Sydney Yoder. Hostetler was also the RVC champ in the 800 with a time of 2:20.11. In the 3000 Yoder was a conference champion with her time of 10:56.94, followed closely by teammate Abby Fleming who took second. Mitzi Evans was the 200 RVC champion with a time of 25.52 seconds. The Hawks also grabbed a pair of relay titles with the sprint medley team of Madeline Schrader, Alyssa McDowell and Tabitha and Mitzi Evans taking the conference crown in 1:49.40 and the distance medley team of Schrader, Amara Jones, Mitzi Evans and Hostetler beat the field for RVC gold in 4:12.72. Other top finishes for the Hawks included Maddie Nonnenmann runner-up in the discus, Ella Groenewold second in the high jump, second place for the 4×200 team of Schrader, Jones, Colby Brown and Tabitha Evans, and third for the 4×100 team of Schrader, Jones, Emma Lueck and Tabitha Evans.
The Golden Hawk boys finished as conference runners-up with a team score of 91.5 points. Tipton won the RVC with 105 points. The Golden Hawk boys had seven championship events on the night. Jayden Stafford went triple gold, winning the wheelchair 100, 200 and 400 races with times of 19.72 seconds, 36.12 seconds and 1:13.58. Cain Brown was the River Valley high jump champ clearing 6’3″, Thaddeus Shetler won the RVC two mile race in 9:46.83. The 4×100 team of Will Cavanagh, Brown, Tyler Helmuth and Carter Harmsen was best in the conference with a time of 44.77 seconds and the Golden Hawk shuttle hurdle team of Justice Jones, Kaden Meader, Braden Hartley and Brown were conference champions in 1:03.79. Other top performances for the Hawks included Shetler runner-up in the mile, second for the distance medley team of Helmuth, Harmsen, Cavanagh and Shetler, third for the 4×200 team of Cavanagh, Harmsen, Helmuth and Meader and third for Brown in the 110 hurdles.
