After several days off, the Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk girls soccer team will travel to Wapello tonight to meet the Arrows in a non-conference tilt. Mid-Prairie has been off since a 3-1 loss Monday in Wellman to rival, No. 10 Iowa City Regina. The Hawks got their lone goal in the contest on an Evelyn Gerber free kick, after trailing 2-0. On the year, Mid-Prairie has a 6-4 overall record. They have outscored their opponents 36-23 and have recorded one defensive shut out on the season. Individually, they are led by Esther Hughes with 21 goals, fourth most in Class 1A. Kaitlin Martin has a team best six assists. In goal, Ainsley Lueck has logged 800 minutes, making 72 saves, allowing 23 goals and posting a 76% save percentage.
Wapello is 1-6 this season. They have dropped matches to Columbus and Central Lee this week by a combined 12-3 score. Their one win this year came in the season opener on April 1st, 3-2 over West Branch. They have been outscored 41-11 this season. Tatum Wolford leads the team individually with six goals and a pair of assists. Sarah McGowan has spent 437 minutes in goal, making 79 saves and allowing 28 goals, working out to a 74% save percentage. These two teams last met in 2019 with Mid-Prairie taking a 10-0 victory. Action gets underway tonight in Wapello at 5p.m.
