Another spring and another Southeast Conference trophy to hoist for the Washington boys’ track program when they captured their second straight SEC championship with a first place showing at Thursday’s conference meet in Mount Pleasant.

There was no denying the Demons of the crown, as they racked up a remarkable 204 points, 82 more than second place Mount Pleasant. A total of 10 events managed first led by four time champion Lance Sobaski. Everything he touched turned to gold with the senior winning the 800m (1:59.74), 1600m (4:50), 3200m (10:23), and he was a part of the victorious 4x400m relay (3:33). This team also consisted of Ethan Patterson, Logan McDole, and Alec Ulin. Brayden Hartman did his thing in the field events winning the shot put (54’7.5’’) and the discus (142’1’’). Elijah Morris won the 400m in .08 seconds clocking in at 49.74. The shuttle hurdle relay bested the field (1:06.9) with this team being Tayven Stuart, James Strabala, Mason Morgan, and Austin Rebling. The sprint medley won (1:37) consisting of Patterson, Rebling, Jacob Miller, and Ulin and the distance medley rounded out the top spots in 3:56 with the relay being Lucas Kroll, Brennen Westphal, McDole, and Micah Rees.

The Washington girls had a strong showing placing third out of six with 101 points while the host Panthers won with 204. Three champions were crowned for the Demons with Grace Voss clearing 5’0’’ in the high jump, the 4x800m (10:50) bested the field, and so did the distance medley (4:35). The 4x800m runners included Kendall Hinrichsen, Abigail Kleese, Voss, and Lauren Horak while the distance medley consisted of Nevaeh Brown, Ada Kendall, Voss, and Kleese. Second place finishes included Kleese in the 800m (2:36), Horak in the 1500m (5:30), Quincy Griffis in the 3000m (12:08), Ally Rees in the discus (104’6’’), 4x100m (54.17), 4x200m (1:55), and 4x400m (4:31).

The Demons will head right back to Mount Pleasant next Thursday for the class 3A districts. Full results can be found here
