The City of Washington was announced as a recipient of a $300,000 Downtown Housing Revitalization grant Thursday.

This grant is among a total of nearly $20 million being invested by the Iowa Economic Development Authority to support downtown housing projects in 61 communities across the state. Main Street Washington applied for the grant on the city’s behalf in partnership with DW Developments to add four new upper-story housing units to a currently vacant space at 111 North Marion Avenue. The City of Fairfield was also among the grant recipients, being granted $450,000 to create 10 upper-story units at 51 East Broadway. The Downtown Housing Grant program provides support for downtown revitalization through new housing opportunities in communities with populations of 30,000 or below.
