U.S. Senator Charles Grassley (R) is keeping mum so far on the House select committee that is investigating the January 6, 2021 insurrection.

This comes as Rudy Giuliani, former lawyer to ex-President Donald Trump, canceled an interview with the committee that was scheduled for Friday. Committee Spokesperson Tim Mulvey announced Thursday that Giuliani had agreed to participate in a transcribed interview with the committee, but he informed committee investigators that day that he wouldn’t show up unless he was permitted to record the interview, which was never an agreed-upon condition. Mulvey states that Giuliani remains under subpoena, and if he refuses to comply the committee will consider all enforcement options. The subpoena states that Giuliani urged President Trump to direct the seizure of voting machines around the country after the November 2020 election, after being told that the Department of Homeland Security had no lawful authority to do so.

Sen. Grassley tells KCII that he is deferring to the committee until they issue a report before he gives any judgment on the investigation, “It’s my understanding that they’re going to release a report in September so we aren’t too far away from getting it. They’re going to have a whole series of hearings during the month of June so we’ll be able to discern something from those hearings. But I’m just going to wait until they get done.”

Multiple associates of President Trump have been indicted for contempt of Congress for failing to comply with the House Select Committee’s subpoena. A count of contempt of congress carries a minimum of 30 days and a maximum of one year in jail as well as a fine of $100 to $100,000, according to the Department of Justice.
