The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk boys golf team saw the year for the full squad draw to a close Wednesday in Tipton at the Class 2A sectional meet, but Mid-Prairie will be represented next week at districts. The Hawks shot 395 overall, finishing seventh of seven teams competing. The top three teams advanced through this sectional intact, giving overall champion West Branch with their 309, Tipton with their 316, and Iowa City Regina with their 345 tickets to the team district round. Top individual score was Bob Ryan of Tipton who fired an even par 72 on his home course, with teammate and medalist runner-up Tristin Sorgenfrey with a 74. Individual district qualifiers include the top two scores and ties outside of the team qualifiers. Golden Hawk leader Warren Scarff got through right on the cut number with an 88. The senior was consistent through the heat and tight competition, shooting a 44 on both his front and back nines. Other Mid-Prairie cards included Drew Schlabaugh 92, Ben Mattes 107, Carson Pence 109 and Ian Schmidt 114.

The showing for Scarff extends his season to next week’s 2A district meet at Mediapolis on Monday where he will take the course with a bid to the state tournament May 23rd and 24th at Coldwater Golf Links in Ames on the line.
