The Hillcrest Academy Music Department will be celebrating their students’ progress this year with a spring concert this Sunday.
The concert will feature the Touring Choir and multiple instrumental ensembles.The Touring Choir will be performing several selections including: The Storm Is Passing Over by Charles Albert Tindley, Hands by Martin Sedek and an arrangement of Loch Lomond by Mary Donnelly and George Strid.
Instrumental ensembles will include the Symphonic Band which will be performing Liturgical Fanfare by Robert W. Smith. The Symphonic Band Percussion Ensemble will perform Latin classics El Cumbanchero, Oye Como Va and The Whole Enchilada.
The concert will also feature the debut of the recently formed Mariachi Band with several traditional mariachi selections.The ensemble features flute, violin, marimba, trumpet, guitar, bass and percussion.
A jazz combo will perform several jazz pieces including The Blues Walk, Hip Hip Hop by Coe College Jazz Band Director Steve Shanley, Blue Midnight featuring senior Ivana Ebersole and Sunrise by Bob Turner.
Senior music students will be recognized as part of the program as well.The Hillcrest Academy music groups are under the direction of Shawn Sandersfeld and Danielle Bridges with piano accompanist Melanie Leichty. The concert begins at 3 p.m. in Celebration Hall. There is no admission fee, but a freewill offering will be taken.
