The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk girls soccer team closed last week with a pair of match wins thanks to late game heroics. In the Hawks victory Thursday over the Washington Demons in Wellman, it was PKs that led the Hawks to the rivalry win on senior night. Kaitlin Martin gave the Hawks a first half lead but the Demons would equalize after the break to send the match to overtime. Neither team could break through during the two, 10 minute extra frames, sending the match to penalty kicks. Mid-Prairie won the PK shoot out 3-2 thanks to Ainsley Lueck making the save on the final Demon PK.

On Friday, Mid-Prairie won 2-1 at West Branch in overtime. Julia Boller had both tallies in the Golden Hawk victory on assists from Martin and Esther Hughes. Boller’s second strike was the golden goal winner, coming in the final seconds of the first sudden death overtime period. With the pair of wins to close the regular season, Mid-Prairie is 9-5 and starts the playoffs at Solon Wednesday.
