The first step in the postseason journey went as planned for the Sigourney girls’ golf team on Friday when they competed at Prairie Knolls for a class 1A first round regional and bested the field of nine schools.
The Savages shot an 18-hole score of 385 to place first and advance to this week’s regional final. That was 39 strokes better than second place Montezuma. Three of the top six individual scores were Savages with Maddie Hornback being runner-up with 83, Maizy Cowman third with 90, and Claire Svenby sixth with 97. Reggie Talbert shot a 115, Zoe Webb 115, and Julia VanEe rounded out the scoring with a 131. Greenlee Smock of Lynnville-Sully had the best score of 72.
Sigourney and Montezuma advances to Wednesday’s regional final at Diamond Trail in Lynnville.
