Youth can find their summer adventure “Beyond the Beaten Path” with the Washington Public Library’s summer reading program.

Registration is open through the end of May, with weekly in-person programs at the library for age groups of kindergarten through second grade, third through fifth grade, and teens. Youth Services Librarian Jenisa Harris says they have several prizes awaiting those who complete reading challenges, “For the younger kids, K-2, they have a path of books they have to fill in. So they can be read to, or read, and they color a book for each one. There’s probably 25 books on there so it’s kind of a fun challenge for them. My older two groups, they’ll do bingo cards. So it has all sorts of things from, do a random act of kindness to read a book out of your comfort zone, things like that. So a really fun way to incorporate some community activities plus reading.”

Besides the reading log, participants will get a calendar of events to not miss any of the library’s upcoming family attractions that will take place either at the library or on the Central Park bandstand. Call (319) 653-2726 to register.
