It’s postseason time for the Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk girls soccer team Wednesday when they hit the road to take on state ranked Solon to open the 1A regional tournament. Mid-Prairie enters the contest with a 9-5 record, winners of back-to-back thrilling matches with a penalty kick victory over Washington and overtime win against West Branch to close the schedule. The Hawks have outscored their opponents this year 48-27 overall with one defensive shut out. Individual leaders include Esther Hughes with 26 goals, fifth in Class 1A. Kaitlin Martin’s 10 assists are best on the team and ninth in 1A. In goal, Ainsley Lueck has worked over 1,100 minutes, making 104 saves, allowing 27 goals for a 79% save percentage.
Solon comes into the contest at 14-3 on the year. They closed the season on a five match winning streak including a 1-0 win at Clear Creek Amana last time out. The Lady Spartans are ranked No. 9 in Class 1A in the final poll of the year from the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union. They have outscored their opponents collectively 65-7 on the season with 13 defensive shut outs. Individual leaders include Morgan Link with 22 goals, eighth in 1A, and her eight assists are also best on the team. In goal, Alex Paisley has worked 1,200 minutes, making 29 saves, allowing six goals for an 83% save percentage. These two teams met on April 11th in Wellman with the Spartans taking a 4-0 win. Solon has won the last eight meetings. The winner of this match advances to the region seven semifinals Tuesday against the winner of Central Lee and Washington. Action starts tonight at 6p.m. at Spartan Stadium in Solon.
