The Wellman Ambulance Service has purchased an upgrade to their rig to help with patient security and staff efficiency. The service has one vehicle in their fleet, which was purchased in 2017, and included a Stryker Cot system. The service recently upgraded the vehicle with a PowerLoad. The PowerLoad is used on each call of service. Staff locks the cot in place in the unit and allows it to do the lifting, instead of using manpower as before. A push of a button allows the wheels of the cot to raise and be pushed into the rig where it is locked into place, leaving the patient secured, in the case of an accident with the vehicle. Cost of the upgrade was $21,700 and was paid for by revenue raised by the ambulance service and local donations and support.
