Taking after their school colors, the red-hot start to the season for the Highland baseball team continued on Friday when they welcomed Louisa-Muscatine for a Southeast Iowa Super Conference matchup and the Huskies rolled to an 11-3 win.
Down 1-0 in the third, the red and white quickly jump started the offense with a three run frame and six more in the fourth to take control of the game. The team peppered 10 hits with Luke Miller going 2-for-3 with two RBI and three runs scored. Peyton Yeggy brought in a pair of tallies and Ethan Paisley managed two singles. Highland improves to 5-0.
Two of the top teams in the league last year met on the softball diamond with L&M taking this meeting over the Huskies by a 5-4 count. Highland finished with seven hits including home runs from Sarah Burton and Payton Brun. Burton finished 2-for-4 with two RBI and Brun was 2-for-4 with one RBI. Jessica Kraus tossed 4 1/3 innings of relief to neutralize the Falcon attack for just one hit and no runs. The Huskies traveled to Wilton the next day for a tournament where they fell to the host Beavers 8-3 and tied Calamus-Wheatland 4-4. Against the Beavers, Grace Batcheller and Mackenzie Hora went 2-for-3 with one RBI and Batcheller threw six frames in the circle surrendering seven earned runs on 10 hits. The tournament did not call for extra innings in the contest against the Warriors where seven Huskies tallied eight hits. Katelyn Waters connected on two singles and Kraus hurled five innings of four run ball and six hits allowed with seven strikeouts. Highland is now 2-2-1 on the young campaign.
Both Huskie teams travel to face Mediapolis tonight.
