The Hillcrest Academy baseball and softball teams travel east to Letts Tuesday to face Louisa-Muscatine. The Raven boys are 0-2 this year after opening week losses to Highland 12-5 and Lone Tree 4-3. The Ravens are hitting .200 as a team led by Liam Schrock with a .500 average. Seth Ours, Grant Bender and Josiah Beachy have all driven in a pair, Phoenix Anderson has scored a team best three runs and Luke Schrock and Ours each lead the squad with three hits. On the mound, the Raven ERA is 6.46 with Luke Schrock, Ours and Beachy combining to work 13 innings, giving up 19 hits, 12 earned runs, walking nine and striking out 15.

Louisa-Muscatine is 1-3 so far with losses to Durant, West Liberty and Highland. Their lone victory by a 14-9 count over Winfield-Mt. Union. The Falcons are hitting .277 as a team led by Bryar Runnells .714 average. Ty Northup has a team best six hits, Xander Bieri leads the way with four RBI and Chris Day has scored four times. The Falcons have an 8.91 ERA as a team with Bieri, Runnells, Max Volkl and Allen Stauffer combining to go 22 innings, give up 36 hits, 28 earned runs, walking 31, and striking out 35. L-M swept this doubleheader last year by 7-3 and 5-4 scores.

The Hillcrest softball team comes into the night with the task of trying to end their early season skid against No. 12 in Class 2A Louisa-Muscatine. The Ravens are 0-3 after opening week losses to Columbus, Highland and Lone Tree by a combined 27-5 score. Hillcrest is hitting .156 as a team with Malia Yoder leading the way at .375. She has a team best three hits, Norah Yoder has scored three times, Grace Miller and Kylee Statler each have an RBI. In the circle Malia Yoder and Leah Bontrager have worked a combined 15 and a third innings with a 8.67 ERA, allowing 21 hits, 19 earned runs, walking 11, and striking out 13 with an opponent batting average of .247.

Louisa-Muscatine is 5-1. They have beaten Mount Pleasant, Highland, Columbus and Winfield-Mt. Union and Wapello this season, their lone setback 12-0 against Lisbon last weekend. The Falcons are hitting .351 as a team with Brynn Jeambey at .462 leading the way. She’s tied with Piper Brant for the team lead with five RBI. Jersey Lessenger has a team best nine hits and nine runs scored. In the circle Hannah Kissell, Brant and Lily Fischer have worked a combined 37 innings with a 3.97 ERA. They have given up 40 hits, 21 earned runs, walking 20 and striking out 51. The Falcons have won 16 in a row in the series.
