***************BASEBALL HAS BEEN POSTPONED TO TOMORROW 6/1, SOFTBALL HAS BEEN POSTPONED TO 6/8*****************
The weather hasn’t been kind to the Washington summer teams so far and they will try to dodge the rain tonight with their scheduled Southeast Conference opener against Burlington.
The Demon softball team has had a pair of rain outs and sit at 1-1 after a doubleheader split to Cardinal last week. Bella Salazar was 4-for-7 on the night with four RBI and she has pitched five innings on the hill along with fellow freshman Halle Cuddeback. The duo pitched against the Grayhounds last year where the SEC Champions took two of three from Washington. Burlington is 2-2 on the young campaign including a 10-0 win over Cedar Rapids Washington over the weekend. Morgan Schroeder is 4-for-10 with three RBI and Saydee Plummer has a 1.70 ERA in 12 1/3 innings of work in the circle.
Washington baseball sits at 1-1 and they fell to Solon 6-4 on Friday. Ethan Patterson is 4-for-6 at the plate with three runs knocked in and the junior also has pitched 4 2/3 innings of scoreless ball. Burlington is 1-3 and most recently split a doubleheader with North Scott. Owen Fawcett is 3-for-4 with two RBI to lead the offense. Burlington also took the SEC baseball crown in 2021 and they swept the Demons in three meetings.
Both first pitch start times are scheduled for 5:30 p.m. in Washington. Listen to the softball doubleheader on FM 106.1 KCII and kciiradio.com starting at 5 p.m.
