After a couple rainouts last week, the Washington softball team had their first road trip of the summer on Wednesday traveling to Knoxville and the home Panthers walked away with a sweep.
Game one saw the Panthers take an early 1-0 lead in the first and three more runs in the third was all they needed in a 4-2 victory. The Demons recorded six base knocks with Leighton Salazar going 2-for-4 while RyLee Fishback and Emmy Wenger each brought in runs. Bella Salazar kept the team in it tossing six innings of four run ball (three earned) on 10 hits, one walk, and three strikeouts.
The nightcap was all Panthers (4-0) with an eight spot in the first that led to a shortened 12-0 final in three innings. Washington had a pair of singles come from Ava Turner and Olivia Hamilton. Halle Cuddeback suffered the loss in the circle recording five outs while giving up 11 runs on nine knocks.
The Demons are now 1-3 and they open Southeast Conference play this evening hosting Mount Pleasant. The SEC rival is 1-4 and the orange and black have won each of the last five meetings. Listen to the doubleheader on FM 106.1 KCII and kciiradio.com with first pitch scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
