The second Southeast Conference opponent in as many days resulted in a doubleheader split on Thursday for the Washington baseball team when they welcomed Mount Pleasant to Dick Sojka Memorial Field.

It was another tough defensive outing in game one with the Demons committing five errors and falling 11-5. The Panthers (3-4, 2-2) plated five runs in the third inning that gave them a 5-1 lead only to have the Demons battle back to make it 7-5 by the end of five. A single insurance tally in the sixth and three in the seventh gave the road squad the victory. Ethan Patterson had two of the team’s five hits and the junior brought home a run. Lucas Kroll, Luke Beenblossom, and Avery Six also had hits. Zeke Slagel suffered the loss tossing five innings surrendering seven runs (one earned) on five hits and striking out seven.

The nightcap saw Washington put up a five spot in the second to build a 6-3 lead and the defense tightened up in a 6-5 triumph. Kole Williams threw 3 2/3 innings of scoreless ball giving up only two hits and Isaac Vetter was credited with the win in 3 1/3 frames surrendering five earned tallies on six hits. The offense had three knocks with Patterson recording a single and double. Kroll and Williams both had two RBI.

The orange and black are now 2-4 overall and 1-3 in the SEC. They hit the road Monday to Fort Madison (5-2).
