The weeklong Juneteenth Celebration begins this week in Washington.

Juneteenth is a federal holiday in the United States commemorating the emancipation of enslaved African Americans. It’s also often observed for celebrating African American culture.

A BBQ Potluck will be held in Central Park on June 12th, from 11:30am-2pm with multiple events set to take place all the way through June 18th. Washington for Justice member Dan Henderson says that the potluck on Sunday is just a small part of what he hopes is a more impactful day.
