Despite Teresa Beenblossom just finishing up her first year as Principal of Washington High School this has not stopped her from setting ambitious goals for the next school year One of these new goals is to decrease the amount of major behavior referral by 12% by the end of 2023.

Beenblossom explains that this goal was set not out of desperation to regain control of the school but rather to keep building upon what was a positive start.

“Last year was actually a decrease because we went from 210 behavior referrals to 199, with 38 freshmen making up 101 of those referrals which is why we’re really going to focus on the freshmen class next year to see what we can do to decrease the number of referrals.”

A big part of Beenblossom’s plan to reduce the number of referrals hinges on school spirit and how she and other staff can bring the school closer together. “We want to celebrate all of our students; we’re looking at having more assemblies and activities throughout the week to help build that school spirit.”

For those parents and other community members that are interested in attending the next school board meeting it will be July 13th in Brighton.
