It’s been a successful last five days for the Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk softball program as they string together their longest winning streak of the year. Mid-Prairie has won four in a row, beginning with a 9-6 win at North Cedar Thursday. The Hawks scored in their first three-at-bats to build a 7-2 lead to run away from the Knights in Lowden. They pounded out 14 total hits, led by Gabi Robertson’s four hit, two RBI night. Brittany Kinsinger added three hits and drove in two. Syndey Knebel and Sophie Miller each drove in a pair. Landry Pacha went the distance in the circle for her first win, giving up eight hits, six earned runs and striking out seven.
Friday night, the Hawks took down Class 4A Mount Pleasant 11-1 in five innings in Kalona in a game heard on AM and FM KCII. Mid-Prairie would never trail on the night, scoring five in the first, once in the third and five more in the fourth. The Hawks hammered 14 hits off of Panther starter Madison Helling, including Dakota Mitchell who finished a home run shy of the cycle and Kadence Grout who belted a three run homer. Mitchell and Grout spoke after the game about their nights at the plate. Mitchell said, “They were throwing them right down the middle and I always look first pitch. I didn’t want to get down in the count or anything. We definitely timed her up tonight. We have been working on our timing and it paid off.”
Grout added, “During the at-bat I was just thinking to myself, I need to get my job done. It felt really good. At first I didn’t know it was out, I thought it was going to be caught. Then I heard Coach Zeb and he kept saying ‘it’s out, it’s out!’ Then when I rounded the corner I saw Coach flexing. It was awesome.”
Gabi Robertson and Sophie Miller each drove in two. Sydney Knebel was dominant in the circle, working all five frames, giving up five hits and striking out six.
It was a business trip to Eddyville-Blakesburg High School Saturday for the Golden Hawks as they scored wins over Davis County and Centerville in tournament play. In the opener, the Hawks toppled their second ranked team of the year, downing No. 8 in Class 3A Davis County 9-8.
