On May 18, Keokuk County filed five charges against Ollie resident, 69 year-old Melvin Marion Burtlow.

According to court documents, Burtlow was charged with two counts of second degree sexual abuse, class B felonies, indecent contact with a child, an aggravated misdemeanor and two counts of assault to commit sexual abuse, aggravated misdemeanors.

These charges stem from multiple incidents between the years 2012-2019. In an April 2022 interview, the victim, Burtlow’s granddaughter, recounted a series of incidents in which her grandfather made advances toward her and engaged in inappropriate sexual contact with her. A physical altercation ensued following the victim’s refusal in which Burtlow grabbed the victim and slammed her against the headboard of the bed. 

Bond was set at $25,000 cash only. He remains in custody at the Keokuk County Jail until his June 17th arraignment.
