A couple Southeast Iowa Super Conference opponents started the week for the Winfield-Mt. Union baseball and softball teams with the Wolves falling in three out of four contests.
The softball squad faced off with No. 8 Louisa-Muscatine on Monday and lost 11-1. They turned around the next day at home and fell to Mediapolis 12-6. Against the Falcons, the Wolves could muster up only four hits with Keely Malone bringing in a run. Makiah Lower tossed 5 1/3 innings in the circle surrendering five earned tallies on 13 hits. In the Mepo game, WMU led 5-4 in the seventh when things went sideways in the top half for an eight run Bulldog frame. The Wolves did produce 10 knocks with Lower and Jobey Malone each going 2-for-4 with two RBI. Lower twirled all seven innings giving up seven earned runs on five hits. WMU is now 4-7 overall.
The WMU/Columbus baseball team got a decisive 7-1 victory over L&M thanks to a five run fifth inning and they held the Falcon bats to five hits. They had a tall task on Tuesday against undefeated Mediapolis and fell 10-0. They are now 2-10 on the season.
Last night’s games against New London were postponed due to weather. Both WMU teams are back at it today against Pekin.
