The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawks bounced back on the road Thursday to score a quality win 7-5 against River Valley North foe Monticello. The No. 8 in Class 2A Golden Hawks trailed early, giving up a run in the first but tied it with a tally in the fourth and then took a lead in the fifth on four runs that they wouldn’t give up the rest of the night. The Panthers scored three times in the sixth to get back within 5-4, but Mid-Prairie closed the door with two insurance runs in the seventh. Karson Grout and Dylan Henry led the sticks for the Hawks with Grout posting three hits, two RBI and two runs scored. Henry drove in four for Mid-Prairie. Cain Brown and Alex Bean each had two hits. Brady Weber was the winning pitcher, going five and a third, allowing three hits, two runs, two walks and striking out four. The Golden Hawks are 10-7 on the season with a stop for a contest against western Iowa’s Dennison-Schleswig on the road Friday before spending the weekend in Omaha at the College World Series.
