The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk baseball team will spend this weekend in the western part of the state and in Nebraska, starting with a Friday game at Denison-Schleswig. Mid-Prairie is 10-7 this year and ranked No. 8 in Class 2A according to this week’s poll from the Iowa High School Baseball Coaches Association, following a 10-7 win at Monticello Thursday. Mid-Prairie is hitting .282 as a group with four over .300 led by Cain Brown’s .411 with 23 total hits and 19 runs scored. Dylan Henry has a team best 20 RBI. On the mound the Golden Hawk staff ERA is 3.78 with Karson Grout holding a 2-0 record with a 4.85 in 13 innings and Collin Miller with 23 frames thrown, a 1-1 record and 2.13 mark. Denison-Schleswig is 6-12 on the year and 4-8 in the Hawkeye Ten Conference. They were 11-8 winners Thursday at Atlantic. On the year, the Monarchs are hitting .181 as a team, led by Trey Brotherton at .289 with 13 hits and seven RBI. They have a 5.76 ERA with Jake Fink at 1.29 in 16 innings with a 1-0 record. These two last met in 2017 with Mid-Prairie winning 3-2. Following tonight’s action Mid-Prairie will continue west to Omaha and spend the weekend at the College World Series. First pitch is scheduled for 6p.m. Friday.
