Both ends of a rivalry doubleheader in Lone Tree Thursday were lopsided when Hillcrest Academy met the Lone Tree Lions. In a softball game heard on AM and FM KCII, the Lady Lions took the contest 13-1 in three innings. Lone Tree scored five times in their first at bat on a pair of hits, sending nine to the plate, and followed that with a second frame where they scored seven times on seven hits with 12 hitters standing in against Raven starter Leah Bontrager. Lone Tree finished action early with a single run in the third. The Lions pounded out nine total hits with seven players in the starting lineup each recording a hit and a run scored. Arlie Lorack and Alex Dautremont each had two RBI and scored twice. Lorack was the winner in the circle, giving up one run on three hits. The two Lady Lions talked after the game about the win. Lorack said, “We were focused on swinging at fastballs and waiting for our pitch. For me pitching, I focus on my spin and Coach J (Jovonte Squires) calls what I need to throw.”
Dautremont said, “We knew at any time we had to be ready to see our pitch and jump on it.”
Lorack threw all three innings striking out six. Hillcrest was led by Malia Yoder’s two for two night with a single and a double. Lone Tree is now 7-8 on the year while Hillcrest falls to 3-8.
The boys contest was tight through five with Hillcrest holding a 2-1 advantage before scoring four times in each of the sixth and seventh innings to pull away for the 10-1 win. Liam Schrock led the Raven bats with four hits. Jace Rempel drove in two with Josiah Beachy and Mason Bender each recording an RBI. Luke Schrock, Seth Ours, Rempel and Liam Schrock all scored two runs. On the hill, Luke Schrock went the distance, giving up three hits, one run, walking one and striking out nine. On the Lion scoresheet Cade Shield, Mathew Hemsted and Will Kleckner each recorded a hit. Hemsted had an RBI and Shield a run.
