While the baseball doubleheader was postponed, the softball games between Washington and Burlington continued on last night with the road Demons managing the split on what has been a productive week.

As heard on KCII, both pitchers were in control in the first game with Bella Salazar and Saydee Plummer going back and forth with the Grayhounds winning 2-0. Salazar surrendered just two runs and five hits in six innings of work, but her offense could only muster up two hits in the contest. Plummer had a no hitter heading into the seventh when Washington threatened with base knocks from Salazar and Ella Greiner, but three straight put outs ended the opener.

The Demon bats were desperately looking for a crooked number inning and they got it in the nightcap with a six run fourth inning that led to a 7-3 win. They compiled 12 hits including six in that frame led by a 2-for-3 with two RBI performance from Greiner. Leighton Salazar finished 2-for-4 with one RBI and all nine batters recorded a knock. Halle Cuddeback was in control in the circle twirling a complete game giving up three runs on seven hits.

Head Coach Ben Obermann tells KCII Sports he loved what he saw from his freshmen pitchers. “They have been locating pitches and they have multiple pitches for strikes. They are both youthful with just 100 innings under their belt so they will continue to get better. Very proud of them and all of our girls in a very busy stretch of games.”

This followed a 5-4 win over Centerville on Wednesday. The Demons have won five of their last seven and improve to 8-15 overall and 5-7 in the Southeast Conference.
