The diamonds will be busy today on the campus at Hillcrest Academy as the baseball and softball programs host their annual Hillcrest Classic Tournaments. The Raven baseball team is 5-7 following a slugfest 12-10 loss at Central Lee Friday. For the year, Hillcrest is hitting .241 as a team with Luke Schrock at .383 with 18 total hits and 14 runs scored. Jace Rempel has a team best 11 RBI. On the mound, the Raven ERA is 4.06 with Luke Schrock at 3-1 this year though 26 innings and a 3.50 mark. Seth Ours has 23 innings at 2.47.
Joining the Ravens in baseball tournament play today are English Valleys, Kee Lansing and Keokuk. The Bears are 3-10 on the season, the Kee Hawks are 23-2 and ranked No. 4 in this week’s Class 1A poll according to the Iowa High School Baseball Coaches Association, and the Chiefs are 8-9 this year. The Hillcrest softball team is also hosting a tournament today. They come into action with a 3-9 record after a 13-1 loss to Central Lee Friday. The Ravens are hitting .285 as a team, led by Grace Miller’s .391 average. Malia Yoder has 11 hits and nine RBI and Esther Hughes has 10 runs scored. In the circle, Leah Bontrager has thrown 53 innings with a 7.00 ERA. Columbus also joins the field at Hillcrest today. The Wildcats are 8-9 overall, 6-6 in the Superconference after an 11-0 win over Mediapolis last time out. The Wildcats are hitting .289 as a group led by Lily Coil at .580 with 39 hits, 23 runs scored and 15 RBI. In the circle, she and Libby White have thrown 95 frames with a 2.87ERA. Also at Hillcrest today will be English Valleys with their 9-7 record and Danville with an 0-11 mark. The Ravens start the day with the Bears at 10a.m. And the ‘Cats take on Danville at noon.
