At approximately 1:44 p.m. Thursday, June 16, the Washington County Communications Center received a report of a three vehicle wreck with injuries that blocked the roadway, near the main entrance to the Ainsworth Four Corners located at 3112 Highway 92.

Upon investigation, it was determined that a white 2014 , Hyundai Accent, driven by Gene Kemmerer of Cedar Rapids was entering Highway 92 southbound from the business, and failed to yield the right of way from a stop sign to a black 2013 Dodge Charger driven by Russell Benischek of Washington, who was traveling eastbound on Highway 92, and as a result of that collision, his car was redirected and struck a black 2014 Ford Focus, driven by Sarah Fitch of Haviland, Kansas, that was legally stopped at the Highway 218, southbound, exit stop sign of the intersection.

Citations are pending against Kemmerer. The Washington County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Iowa State patrol, Washington County Ambulance Service, Ainsworth QRS and Bulltown Towing.

The Washington County Ambulance Service transported Kemmerer to the University of Iowa Hospitals, while Benischek and Fitch were transported via private vehicles.

All three vehicles were totaled.
