
The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk softball team continued their red-hot play to close last week, posting victories over West Branch and Monticello. The Hawks got by the Bears 8-3 in extras on Wednesday. The Hawks led 2-1 after four before the Bears scored two in the sixth. Down to their final three outs, Mid-Prairie got one to keep things going and then exploded for five in the 10th to take the contest. The Hawks had 16 hits including seven doubles. Sophie Miller and Landry Pacha led the hit parade with three each, with Pacha driving in two. Dakota Mitchell, Madeline Schrader, Brenna Jehle and Molly Yoder each had two. Sydney Knebel was the winner in the circle, going five innings, giving up one hit and striking out three.
Thursday, the Hawks were road winners again, this time 5-2 at Monticello. Mid-Prairie put up 11 hits including four doubles. Knebel had four hits and drove in three. Sophie Miller added three hits and Dakota Mitchell two. Knebel went the distance in the circle, giving up seven hits, two runs, walking two and striking out three. This seven game winning streak for Mid-Prairie is their longest since a 10-gamer in June of 2015. Their overall record is now 11-7.
The Mid-Prairie baseball team went to Denison Friday and collected a 9-1 win. The Hawks were never challenged in the game, leading 6-0 before the Monarchs got on the board, then answering their single run with three in the seventh. Mid-Prairie pounded the ball all over, and out of the yard, finishing with 11 hits and three homers. Karson Grout, Cain Brown and Brock Harland each belted home runs and drove in five combined on six total hits for the trio with six runs scored. Harland was also the winning pitcher, going four innings, allowing four hits, three walks and striking out five. The win moved Mid-Prairie to 11-7 for the season to kick off their weekend at the College World Series in Omaha.
