Runs were plentiful and the innings were few last night at the Mapleleaf Athletic Complex when the Washington softball team rolled to a pair of victories over Mount Pleasant by a combined 31-1 tally.

As heard on KCII, the two games lasted just a total of six innings with the orange and black putting up multiple double digit frames. They led 3-0 in the second inning of game one when Panther (2-18, 0-14) pitching dealt eight walks in the frame that led to 10 runs and a quick 13-0 victory. The offense took nine free passes and connected on four hits with Bella Salazar going 1-for-2 with two RBI and a walk. The freshman had three stress free innings in the circle giving up just one hit and five strikeouts while facing the minimum.

In the nightcap the Panther pitchers found the zone and the Demon bats found the barrel, peppering 15 hits in the three frames en route to an 18-1 win. Ava Turner went 3-for-3 with three RBI while RyLee Fishback and Salazar each added three hits with runs knocked in. Halle Cuddeback and Claire Robinson combined for nine outs in the circle surrendering one run on two hits.

Head Coach Ben Obermann tells KCII Sports he was pleased with the offensive approach. “It’s not easy to be patient when there are not a lot of balls to hit, but we are a patient team and we were not swinging at bad pitches. We took what the pitchers gave us in game one, but in game two when they were throwing strikes we were ready. What I really liked is we were spraying it all over the field and just about every ball in play was hit hard.”

The Demons have won seven of nine, get back to .500 in conference with a 7-7 league mark, and sit at 10-15 overall.
