It was an all around successful Wednesday for the Highland summer teams when they split up in Southeast Iowa Super Conference play.
The softball team hosted Van Buren for a crossover matchup and the Huskies scored in every inning en route to an 11-0 victory over the Warriors (7-11). The offense peppered 15 hits with seven players having multiple knocks including Katelyn Waters going 2-for-3 with three RBI. MyLei Smith was plated three times. Grace Batcheller got the win tossing all five frames in the shutout surrendering just three hits and two walks. Highland improves to 13-7 overall and they are 9-3 in conference.
Baseball had a makeup game against Pekin in Packwood and the visiting Huskies escaped town with a 9-6 win. Tied at 5-5 in the seventh, Highland put up a four spot in the last inning to nab their 10th conference victory of the season. The offense had 12 knocks with Connor Grinstead going 3-for-4 with one RBI and two runs scored. Trevor McFarland had a couple hits and two RBI. Logan Bonebrake was the winning pitcher tossing the final two innings giving up one run on two hits and striking out four. The team is now 16-2 overall and 10-2 in the league.
