An administrative recount of absentee votes cast in the June 7, 2022, Washington County Primary Election was approved on Tuesday by the Washington County Board of Supervisors. While the absentee ballots were counted by the Absentee Board on Election Day, the information from the flash drive used to count the absentee ballots was not included in the results that were downloaded and forwarded to the Office of the Iowa Secretary of State.

The main election in question due to the missed absentee ballots was Board of Supervisors District 3 in which Marcus Fedler had initially won by only five votes over Bill Poch. After the recount of the results were made official on Wednesday all of the initial results remained the same.

Washington County Auditor Dan Widmer spoke on the process.

“A recount of the votes cast in the June 7  Republican Primary Election for District 3 Supervisor in Washington County was conducted and I am pleased that the results from the recount were identical to the canvassed results. The identical results give further proof that the election process is reliable and trustworthy. I also want to thank the individuals that assisted with the recount process.”
