The offense was productive last night at Dick Sojka Memorial Field, but it was not enough for the Washington baseball team when they were swept by Fort Madison in a Southeast Conference double dip. 

As heard on KCII, game one was all about an eight run Bloodhound (14-6, 11-4) first inning where they sent 13 batters to the plate and cashed in on a couple Demon errors. Washington settled in and both teams traded scores the rest of the way, but the orange and black couldn’t break through in a 12-5 loss. The Bloodhounds out hit the Demons 16-8 with Ethan Zieglowsky leading the offense going 3-for-4 with one RBI. Lucas Kroll had a pair of hits and two RBI. Kole Williams, Avery Six, and Tim Willits all saw time on the mound for the home squad. 

Game two got out to a much better start with an energetic Demon bunch scoring twice in the first, four in the second, and building an 8-3 lead in the fifth. The game completely turned on its axis with the Hounds scoring six in that frame and seven more in the sixth inning to build a 16-8 lead and eventual 16-10 win. Washington had 10 hits from the top four in the lineup led by Kroll going 3-for-4 with three RBI. Ethan Patterson had three hits and two knocks came from Williams and Zieglowsky. Luke Beenblossom held his own on the bump throwing 3 2/3 innings surrendering three runs on five hits. 

Head Coach TJ Rausch thought his team brought the necessary energy in game two. “We came out ready to go, which was different than the first game. It was great that we turned the page and were hitting it well, but so was Fort Madison. They had 16 hits and it felt like seven of those never left the infield. Hats off to them for putting the ball in play and that is baseball, sometimes it doesn’t roll your way.”

Washington is now 5-13 overall and 3-11 in the SEC. They host Williamsburg (16-13) this evening for senior night.
